West Robotics, FIRST Team 9668, is a student-centered engineering team where ambitious ideas meet tools, code, deadlines, and the discipline of working together.
Who we are
One team. Many ways to contribute.
Malfunctionz brings together builders, programmers, strategists, communicators, organizers, mentors, and community partners. Not everyone arrives knowing how to build a robot. Everyone arrives with something the team can use—and room to grow.
Our season is a practical education in turning uncertain problems into tested solutions. Students learn to ask better questions, document decisions, recover from failure, and help teammates succeed.
Design. Test. Break. Learn. Iterate.
Curiosity · Accountability · Gracious Professionalism · Teamwork
What students practice
Technical fluency meets human skill.
Design & fabrication
Mechanisms, CAD thinking, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, wiring, inspection, and continuous improvement.
Programming & controls
Breaking behavior into logic, integrating sensors and actuators, testing safely, debugging under pressure, and documenting code.
Leadership & operations
Project planning, communication, budgeting awareness, outreach, strategy, presentation, self-management, and shared ownership.
What is FIRST?
A sport for the mind—and a proving ground for teams.
FIRST Robotics Competition challenges high-school teams to design, build, program, and compete with an industrial-scale robot in a new game each season. The robot matters, but the deeper work is collaboration: students, mentors, schools, volunteers, and sponsors creating opportunities together.
